1. Look at yourself realistically. Modeling is NOT for everyone. Models are generally between 5'9 and 6'0, weighing between 120-130 lbs. Generally, modeling agencies like girls to be under 18 years old when beginning, as the model's career is usually short. You should have nicely spaced eyes, a straight nose (though this is not always the case!) beautiful skin, and a nice smile. Skin tones and face shapes are varied these days, which allows many girls who might not have worked before to be very successful! If you have these qualities, see a reputable agency for an opinion. 2. Do NOT invest a lot of money in such things such as schooling or pictures. Modeling school is not always bad, but it's not necessary to become a model. A good agent will be able to see your potential right away, without pictures. If the agent thinks you have potential, they will set you up with a "test" photographer which is very inexpensive. (You usually just pay for film and development.) This will allow the agency to see how you photograph. If the photo's are expensive the agency is likely a "Photo Mill," meaning they make money by getting potential models to pay for expensive photos with no intention of finding them molding jobs. 3. On the subject of "photographing well," some girls look absolutely fabulous in person and the modeling agency has great hope, but then she simply doesn't "improve" in print. Other girls who look almost plain in person, might look absolutely amazing in pictures. 4. Keep a positive attitude! Remember, modeling is a competitive business, so you are bound to face rejection. Just remember, if one agent doesn't take you, another one might! A winning attitude is very important in a business like molding because it is all about how you project yourself. For more on this - see my soon to be released book, "Beauty & Soul: Your Guide to Beauty from the Inside Out." 5. If you don't meet the height and weight requirements, don't worry. Ask your local agencies about "commercial" modeling, an area that encourages all shapes and sizes!
