Summer Beauty Ideas
Summer is the time when we should be outside enjoying ourselves without a care...HOWEVER, it happens to be the time of year I get the most questions! You are not alone! Between the heat, humidity, chlorine and salt, hair and skin can wind up looking less that lovely in no time at all. Here are my tried and true tips to keep you cool and beautiful all summer long!
* Strawberries should be in everyone's fridge. They are loaded with salicylic acid, a key ingredient in fighting acne. Even if you don't have acne, these acids remove impurities and keep skin smooth and clear. Simply mix them in a blender with a little witch hazel, and apply to face. Rinse after fifteen minutes. I like to use this mixture all over my body, then rinse in the shower. (Smells terrific, too!) Strawberries are also natural teeth whiteners. After brushing, mash a strawberry and brush again. Easy, delicious way to a bright smile!
* Kiwi's are chock full of vitamin C, which helps correct sun damage as well as protecting skin from sun the suns rays. Eat a kiwi (but don't ditch the sunscreen) before heading into the sun. When mashed with a little cornmeal or raw sugar, kiwi's are the perfect exfoliant and beautifier. Massage into clean, dry skin and let sit for 15 minutes (or longer!). Rinse with cool water.
* Coconut oil is one of my absolute favorite all-over beautifiers. Perk up dry summer locks by combing coconut oil from scalp to ends. Let soak in for an hour and wash gently. For even better results, leave in overnight and wash in the morning. (Just be sure to put a towel on your pillow!)
It's also a terrific moisturizer for the face an entire body, and it's nutrients help eliminate scars, wrinkles and fine lines. I use it every day!
* Before jumping into the pool or ocean, soak hair first with cool, clean water. This prevents salt/chlorine from penetrating hair shaft, nixing dryness or the dreaded "green" for color treated hair. For days you will be in the sun for extended periods, comb through a leave in conditioner. The suns rays will help the conditioner to super charge locks in to perfect softness!
*Skip heavy lipsticks and glosses in the summer and opt for sheer tinted balms. Pink and peach shades look beautiful through warm weather, and most contain built in sun protection.
* Many women gain weight in the summer, as higher temps can slow metabolism. Boost yours by taking a cold bath (or swim!) for twenty minutes a day. The cool water revs metabolism and boosts energy!
